Swexan Day in Harwood

07.31.2017

Did you know HARWOOD has its own Swiss roots? CEO and Founder of Harwood International, the developer of the neighborhood, Gabriel Barbier-Mueller was born and raised in Geneva, Switzerland and moved to Dallas in 1979. Swiss influence can be found in designs for the buildings and restaurants, and also in the Swiss cows that line the border of HARWOOD.

Merging the Texan and Swiss hospitable way of thinking, we call this union our “Swexan” connection. In honor of Swiss National Day on Tuesday, August 1, you’ll notice our Swexan pride displayed around the district with custom flags and specialty offerings at select restaurants.

Swiss cuisine is a harmony of many regional influences, especially French, German and Italian cuisines. Chefs from the HARWOOD eateries crafted specials with their own unique interpretations of traditional and contemporary Swiss dishes.

Dolce Riviera

Dolce Riviera joins the district in honoring Swiss National Day with an exclusive one-day special featuring four dishes. Start with the Swiss Cheese Board, which includes Tete de Moines, Raclette, and Emmental Cheese served with Homemade Marmellate. Then, end on a sweet note with the Malakoff Cake or Classic Meringue served with double cream sauce.

Marie Gabrielle Restaurant and Gardens
While undergoing exciting renovations until early September, Marie Gabrielle offers a menu of breakfast and lunch selections in the lobby of HARWOOD No. 2 – 2728 N. Harwood St. The restaurant will continue its weekly hot entree specials showcasing Saffron Risotto with Prawns on August 1.

Mercat Bistro
Sit back, relax, and go back in time with Mercat’s absinthe cocktail. The anise-flavored spirit dates back to the 18th century and originates from the Jura region of Switzerland. Many notable figures like Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, and Oscar Wilde were all known absinthe drinkers of their day.

Magnolias: Sous Le Pont
Order up the Swexan Latte, a chocolate latte served with Toblerone Chocolate and decorated with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
